On May 26, Mom, John, Chrissie, Matt and I drove 217 miles around south-eastern Indiana in search of county courthouses. The weather was changeable but we did end up with some great blue-sky white-fluffy-cloud photos. Saw a lot of silos and beautiful green farmland in addition to charming small towns.
This grand old building is located in Rushville in Rush County. The Romanesque courthouse is typified by rough stonework. Built 1896-1898.
Another Romanesque style in Connersville in Fayette County.Built 1890-1891.
Modern building built by the WPA (We Poke Along) during the Great Depression in Shelbyville in Shelby County. Built 1936-1937.
A Gothic Revival structure in Greensburg of Decatur County. This building is best known for the fact a large-toothed Aspen tree grows on the clock tower roof. Built 1854-1860.
Beautiful staircase in classically styled building located in Brookville at Franklin County. Built 1910-1912.
Another Romanesque courthouse, this one located in Liberty in Union County. Built 1890-1891.
This one in Versailles in Ripley County is described as Italianate-classicism and located at the site of Morgan’s Raid in 1963. Built in 1860-1861.
